Book review

When, in 212, the Roman emperor Caracalla granted citizenship to most subjects of the empire, he denied the privileges of those who did not have their own country. Since the Jews were regarded as people who have their own state, they were granted Roman citizenship. The Mishnah and Jerusalem Talmud were created during the Roman and Byzantine rule. Even in 614, Jews were fighting for independence! When the Persians invaded the Land of Israel, many Jewish groups fought on their side against the law in the country of the Byzantines. The Jews had hoped that the expulsion of the Byzantines return to Israel freedom. Only in the siege of Tyre was attended by more than twenty thousand Jewish soldiers.
