Book review

"Let the others - Ambrose says - hoard of silver and gold; we collect nails, which had pierced the martyrs and their blood is victorious, and the tree of their cross "[901]. He recounts, in a letter to his sister, the miraculous finding bones Brotherhood twins Gervasius and Protasius, two completely unknown and long forgotten martyrs of the period of persecution under Nero or Domitian [902]. It originated one of the most famous wonders of relics in the ancient church. It is confirmed by the most compelling evidence, Ambrose and his younger contemporaries, his secretary and biographer Paulinus, Bishop Paulinus of Nola, and Augustine, who was then in Milan; it defined the victory of the Nicene orthodoxy over the Arian Empress Justina opposition, but it is very difficult to believe, and it seems (at least in part), it is based on pious inventions [903].
